Newspaper Report 1SINGAPORE:
If you visited Orchard Road on Saturday, you would have observed the selling of flags for donations to some charitable organisation - namely the Yellow Ribbon fund, a fund to help the ex-convicts escape from a second prison. What could this second prison mean?
The fund was set up to recognise the needs of ex-convicts to re-integrate into the society in June 2004. Second prison? It most probably refers to the difficulties ex-convicts face after they are released from prison.
Selling of flags was not only confined to Orchard Road. Pupils and volunteers were also spotted at Bishan, Sembawang, Woodlands and Ang Mo Kio. The following is a short conversation with one of the pupils, a 13-year old boy from Hwa Chong Institution, spotted at Sun Plaza near Sembawang MRT Station at around 2 in the afternoon.
Reporter : "What are your feelings on this charitable drive?"
Student : "I feel that ex-convicts should be given another chance to prove themselves. The Yellow Ribbon Fund allows the ex-convicts to ascend to a greater height more quickly."
Reporter : "How long is your shift?"
Student : "From 0830 in the morning to around 1500 hours - About 6 and a half hours."
Reporter : "Do you travel around on the MRT to other places with those two friends of yours?"
Student: "Oh, those two are Hubert and Ivan. We made quite a mess of ourselves when we took the MRT to Ang Mo Kio then to Bishan then to Orchard then back to Sembawang - How stupid."
