The elation within one's heart when one's school wins all at national competitions... Never-ending...

Ah well! Maybe this will provoke some RI people but we all have our own strengths right? RI is good in Rugby and we are good in other areas, so no offence.

What actually happened? Well, this Wednesday, the Secondary 1 cohort were supposed to support our track and field team at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium for the National Track and Field Finals. So we made our way down in private buses that, despite their size, was cramped with students.

Most of the HCI pupils will know that we have already reigned champions in B and C Divisions for 2 years consecutively already and this is our school-dominated area. Recently, after many competitions, our C Div already caught the championship with a dominance of 49 between the next highest scorer. For our B Div, it was a tad tougher, they were only 20+ points up and with three competitions, ACS(I) could catch up and steal the championship trophy from us - we can't let that happen right?!

So, arriving at Choa Chu Kang Stadium, we were presented with a ticket each and made our way into the Stadium into a specially reserved area for us. The senior councillors were rumored to have gotten up as early as 4am to reserve an entire section, that's before the management said "First come, first serve". Oh wow! What a bucket of cold water...

Settling down, we cheered on and on and watched a match after a match that we did not take part in (B and C Girls Division). Not bad, considering the amount of effort put in - runners fast and the relays were the best part. We also had rented (my guess) a house linking to the Stadium and put up "称霸" - words that show our confidence.

Anyway, apart from our victory, there were also other nitty gritty details that added to the excitement of this event. Well, for one, there was a Milo van parked in the adjoining carpark and much to our delight, it was free and cups were provided (though I must say that the Milo had too much sugar).

Overall, the event was an interesting insight into our school's strengths and I hope we will be able to keep this up (though it may not be easy with the Sports School coming up)...

This is my third post on Harry Potter. Well, you can't say that I am not enthusiastic about it right? I've finished reading the lastest installment for the second time - just to make sure I did not miss anything out. If you would like to know what R.A.B. probably stands for, ask me in my tag-board... do my best to answer you. Anyway, in order to not give out spoilers, you can ask me everything about Harry Potter in the tag-board... Yah, there.

Progressing into Harry Potter has been tough... Determined...

You all might wonder why I did not actually finish the book by yesterday? There was seriously little time left yesterday after I went to help out at the HCI Open House 2005 as an iCouncillor-in-training (CsIT).

The role of the iCouncillors-in-training was to conduct both parent and student tours. Parent tours would be conducted in a group of 8 with one CsIT/iCouncillors and the student ones were a group of around 35 to around 4 CsIT and 2 iCouncillors. We were given information on various parts of our school and given a tour route to follow. The main four parts were the clocktower-library- Kah Kee Hall- Wing Steed - TKK Statue area, the Science block - Kuo Chuan Art House - Technology Block area, the Admin Block cum Drama Centre area and last but not least, the canteen area. There were four routes to minimise congestion and that was it.

I personally did the one that brought the parents from one end (Drama Centre) to the other end (Tech Block) of the school. It was really nervous and the parents' look really made me feel um... intimidated? No, probably more like loss of self-confidence. Overall, the parent tour was enjoyable and the parents looked, in my opinion, contented and satisfied with the compound tour.

Student tours were very much more relaxed with us speaking freely to the students, encouraging them to come to our school. Basically, most of them were naughty and naive, maybe just like how the last batch of Nanyang GEP Students were last year . Anyway, I met this boy from Pei Xin (or something like that) and he was so eloquent in speaking Chinese that I was astounded by his grasp of Chinese Language - surely a guy from Maha Bodhi School, I reasoned. I was certain of great achievements in Higher Chinese for him, let's hope he will choose HCI as the school of choice, RI may not suit his Chinese personality.

Rewards for this event was nil but who cares anyway when we all had a fun-filled time? At least we got more than what we expected - some meal consisting of chicken, vegetables and rice at around 4...

When I returned home, the time was already 5pm. How depressing? Reaching school at 11 and 'home sweet home' at 5, big waste of 6 hours of free time to read Harry Potter. Anyway, I am glad for the return of Harry Potter (these two years have been tiring) and I will wait for August to arrive as a new book will come out, sequel to Eragon - Christopher Paulini! 'Eldest'!

Clouds cover all that the sun has to offer, with those that darken letting lose pellets of rain... Seriously disheartened...

This week has been a very hectic week with one Mathematics class test, English Oral Exam, Projects Day 2005 Semi-finals presentation - too chaotic for my taste.

First, let's talk about some happy and un-depressing stuff first. Mathematics test, held on Wednesday, showed my true colours in the arena of Mathematics. When I received my results in class the next day, elatedness crowded my heart as I had got a score of 35/35 full marks - highest in the class together with another one of my classmates, Xian Bin! Yahoo!

Next, on the same day I had my Mathematics Class Test, I had my English Oral Examination in the afternoon which was really a half-flunk. The examiner, Mr Kevin Cheng, is supposed to be strict and gay - not the 'happy' meaning. Well, I don't know about the second part but the first part was incorrect without an ounce of truth within that 'fact'. On the contrary, Mr Cheng proved to be quite a nice guy, allowed us to sit while reciting our oral piece (a poem selected by us), quite unlike any other teacher examiner. The oral piece? Well, that was the not so good part. I couldn't memorise everything but I tried my best and I did not get prompted... is that a good sign? Anyway, the short 5 questions asked about my poem later and how it related to real life was in my opinion, well-constructed. When he questioned if I had any stuff to add after this, I remembered about the rhythmic part, so I added it - more points!

The poem is as follows:

My Papa's Waltz
The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy
But I hung on like death
Such waltzing was not easy
We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf
My mother's countenance
Could not unfrown itself
The hand that held my wrist
Was battered on a knuckle
At every step you missed
My right ear scraped a buckle
You beat time on my head
With palm caked hard by dirt
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt
-Theodore Roethke
Last of all, today I had to present my IRS project to the judges and it was a fluke. I mean, what happens when you were suddenly told you went to the wrong category? Well, I took a huge beating on my emotions and it was really like I wanted to burrow into a hole just like a rabbit. After months of preparation, someone comes up to you and says "Sorry, why don't you try again next year?" - WHAT THE HELL... Anyway, most of the other Secondary 1 groups were also probable targets to kick, when I took a peek at one of the judges' script, the group in question got only 2s and 1s, for sure fail (the highest is 4). What a failure!
Anyway, I also got my "Total Defence" badge this week for Youth Flying Club. Tomorrow's the great day - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince released! After that, I have got HCI Open House 2005, need to go... For those in Raffles Institution, did any of you see that advertisement in the Chinese News Paper?
thus was the failure of thy in thy project drastic and terrible... til next time then...

The sandy dunes of time rush past our faces...

Hello once again! I know that I have not blogged for a long time already. Thanks to all those people whom have benn keeping my tag-board up and active!

What has happened between my last post that was dated 20 June 2005 and today, Saturday the 9th of July? Well, quite a lot, I have to say.

First, I think I mentioned about a training camp. Well, it so happens that I went for this particular training camp with some of my other peers in the same consortium as me, iSpark. The purpose of the 4D3N camp was to once again (you know, all the courteous stuff) bond the councillors together and to train the new Councillors-in-training to know the basics. Some of stuff included public speaking, which I had already had an in-depth lesson on (sabbaticals) and how to write out different proposals and action plans. All in all, it was the seniors teaching the juniors and it turned out to prove successful. We learnt a lot in those four days. Besides learning stuff, we also had recreational time within the chalet at Pasir Ris which included sports like swimming, basketball, captain's ball and obviously not missing soccer and tennis. Also, on the third day of the camp, we had the chance to visit Downtown East, in which I spent most of my time in X-Square. (During our rest time and times when we finished stuff earlier than expected, we sneaked up back into our rooms and started playing card games - Tai-ti, Bridge, Bluff and Vingt et Un (Blackjack in French)).

Second, school reopened much too soon. Not too long after we said "bye" at the school gates were we saying "hi" or "good morning" again at the classrooms. With school comes school homework and stress. Stress? Most of it was pressure on the upcoming exams in Week 3 (next week) and the Projects Day Semi-Finals 2005. We (Zong Xian, Ning Yu and me) were really hard-pressed for our IRS project and were doing rapid last minute work. To add up to the pressure, we were unable to find the common lot of teenagers at Orchard Rd. In the end, we had to use three days to complete surveying a hundred teenagers at various locations - Orchard MRT, Cineleisure, Heeren and MOELC. In the process of surveying, we met one of our old classmates cum friends - Edmond at The Heeren. Cool...

Thirdly, with the release date for Halo Multiplayer Map Pack set for July 5, I scrimped and saved up for it. The result? 9 beautiful maps and some short animations + interviews with the developers.

That's about all! I know that my website is a little run down so I might spend some time making sure everything works like clockwork. Thanks for the support!
